Abstract

Infrared absorption band assignments and polarimetric rotatory power of penicillins are describe.
¥â-lactam, amide and carboxylic bands of potassium and sodium salts of penicillins in KBr discs are shifted to higher wave numbers than in deuteriumoxide solutions. Ampicillins anhydrous, 6-aminopenicillanic acid and some other anhydrous penicillin bases are presumable to form hydrogen bonds in solid states by their infrared spectra. Rotatory power of potassium hetachillin and sodium cloxacillin in bufferd solutions are not varied in the range of pH4-10.
